Let's talk Thermal Shock!!!
We have done quite a number of repairs lately on stone (both natural & engineered) benchtops that have been damaged by thermal shock.
This is caused by putting a hot (or very cold) pot straight on the benchtop. It's the difference in temperature between the pot and the benchtop that causes thermal shock and damages the benchtop.
It can sound like a gunshot going off as your benchtop cracks under the pot.
Our advice to save you repair costs - always, always use a hot mat just in case! Don't put anything too hot or too cold directly on the benchtop.
